New Zealand

Recently, I often remembered about New Zealand. I took these pictures at farm's festival in NZ. It is funny, isn't it? They are so cute and hairy. There were a lot of sheep and dogs. I touched the sheep's hair and really enjoyed there. I could watch the show of shearing the sheep.

New Zealand's Nice Things

I will show about New Zealand traditional meal. “Hangi”. It is Maori’s traditional meal. Hangi is made on a special day. First, Maori men dig a hole in the ground and Maori woman prepare foods. The foods are chicken, pork, beef, cabbage, kumura, pumpkin and so on. They put the foods on baked stone and cover the foods with leaves. Then Maori men bury the foods in the hole. The foods are steamed a few hours. There is a rule when they make hangi. Maori woman must not approach the hole; it is tradition. Some Japanese don’t like hangi because it smells bad. However like this, it takes a lot of time to make hangi so it is better to eat hangi.
The next, wine is necessary for dinner in New Zealand. New Zealand is abundant in natural resources so New Zealanders can make a good wine. They usually drink it at a party. In addition, some people eat desserts after dinner in New Zealand. It may be a part of dinner. The desserts are ice-cream, puvrova and so on. The most popular ice-cream in New Zealand is “Horkey-Porkey-ice-cream”. There are pieces of caramel in vanilla ice-cream. Then, pavrova was made when a ballerina, Anna Pavrova gave a performance in New Zealand.


There are some differences between New Zealand and Japan, but there are not big differences. It is similar style of dinner between New Zealand and Japan. However both of their traditional foods are quite different. New Zealanders have a lot of foreign foods so Japanese foods are so popular in New Zealand. Actually, a lot of Japanese restaurants are seen in New Zealand. My host family said they like Japanese foods so they often go to the restaurants. But most New Zealanders don’t like natto so there are not nattomaki at most restaurants. Most New Zealanders know Japanese foods in addition they often eat them. A lot of Japanese students liked Fish & Chips and Pizza of New Zealand, so most of Japanese probably like New Zealand dishes.

I Love New Zealand

I really like New Zealand because I had been to there for one month last year. I had a great time there!! However my friends can't go there this year in consequence of influenza. It’s really sad thing. I wanted to listen some stories of them but I can’t. I think I want them to know about New Zealand so I will show my report of NZ.

I am greedy and I am interested in dinner of NZ the best so I searched about that last year. What do people usually eat? What time do they eat? New Zealand has some various dishes, custom and tradition about dinner. Some differences are found between New Zealand and Japan.

First, dinner is the most important meal in a day so most family usually has a dinner together. There is no difference between New Zealand and Japan about this point, but there are some differences about dishes and styles of eating. Most New Zealanders have a dinner between 6 to 7 o’clock, but most Japanese have between 7 to 8 o’clock. New Zealanders have a dinner earlier than Japanese. The next, Japanese staple food is rice so Japanese have rice almost every day. While New Zealand staple food is potato. The popular potato in New Zealand is “Kumura”. It is like sweet potato. Most Japanese students liked these potatoes. A lot of New Zealanders have potatoes with meats, chicken, lamb and pork.

Second, there are many different kinds of oversea meals in New Zealand so they have various kinds of meals. The popular meal for dinner in New Zealand are Fish & Chips, roast meals, pasta, pie, fish meals, pizza and so on. Fish & Chips is really popular food in New Zealand. It has been popular since a long time ago. New Zealanders usually take away and eat at their home. It is not healthy but delicious and easy to prepare dinner. It is probably the most popular food in New Zealand. New Zealanders often have roast beef, pork, chicken or lamb. They have it with potatoes and vegetables. New Zealand meals are called “Pacific rim meal” because New Zealand was affected from a lot of countries which Europe, Asia and Polynesia. Therefore New Zealanders often have like pasta, pizza and pie. New Zealand meals are basically meat and three vegetables. It is so simple. They also have fish but it is expensive so they have once in a while. Accordingly, New Zealanders have mainly meats and vegetables for dinner. In addition, most New Zealand families have an oven at home so they usually use it and roast meats a long time.

In the summer, New Zealanders love BBQ and they enjoy a dinner in the open air. They roast sausages and meat chops. They put the meats on bread with tomato sauce. It is traditional style of eating. They can get fresh meats and vegetables at supermarkets in New Zealand so BBQ is the most popular meal in the summer. But in Japan it is also popular in recent years.

Like this, New Zealand’s meal was really good and nice!! I want to go there and eat some foods again;)

Book Review 14: Oliver Twist

This time, I read the book “Oliver Twist” It is a little long story for me but I enjoyed reading to the last. Why I chose it, I have heard Oliver Twist before and I wanted to know what story it is.

First, he is really poor because his mother dead when he was born. He was entered an orphanage and named "Oliver Twist" by Mr. Bumble. When he is seven, he was in a dormitory with fifty other starving boys. They are really hungry and want to eat more. So Oliver asked Mr. Bumble to let eat more. And then he was so angry and Oliver was entered sooty cellar.

After that, he was sold to rich man and worked his house. However his son showered abuse of Oliver's mother so he was very angry and went out anywhere. He walked and walked, finally reached London. There are a lot of shops, markets and people. He was really hungry and stared some bread of shops. A boy came to Oliver and gave a piece of bread, he is Dodger, a first friend. Oliver followed him and reached old man's home. I thought that he can be happy finally! However it was a start of unhappy because they are thieves! He run away and then a gentleman helped him, he is Mr. Brownlow. And he said to Oliver ”Perhaps I can help you. Come with me.” I think that he is so kind and Oliver will be happy finally!! Oliver can have a hot bath, play games, read books and enjoy music. He thinks “I feel as if I’m living in a dream!” In addition, He wears clean clothes not dirty one.

One day, Mr. Brownlow asked Oliver to post a mail. He went to out but he was caught by that thieves!! He is really unlucky boy…I think. He was involved in an incident. He takes a long long time to be happy. However, he becomes to be happy finally. He could live fortunately with Mr. Bumble. I want you to read this story because it is a really moving one.

The Witch of The West is Dead

Today, I watched a DVD “The Witch of The West is Dead” Do you know this movie? It was so good movie. I really moved so recommend this DVD to you. I have read this DVD’s original version book, it was nice, too. This story unfolds really peaceful and comfortable but some events happened. Therefore I glued myself to the movie.

I will show you the content of the story a little. The main characters are Mai, her mother and father, Genji, postal clerk and Mai’s grandmother. Mai is a junior high school student but she don’t want to go to school for some reasons. Then she goes to her grandmother’s house in order to rest. Her house was encircled with the forest and there are some gardens. I really liked this house because I love nature and the gardens! Nature’s good point is to make me relax and comfortable. In addition, the garden’s good point is that I can eat some fresh vegetables and fruits. There are large strawberry garden and some vegetable gardens in there. I really yearn for the country life such as that. Mai and her grandmother made a lot of strawberry jam. It looks very delicious: )

Actually, her grandmother is the witch, she is so kind witch. Mai want to be a witch so she begins to the training I order to be the witch. They spend a happy days together. During watching this movie, I remembered one thing. It is living for a month which I was in New Zealand. I went to NZ now last year and spend a happy days.
After watching this movie, I thought that have to keep regular hours! Otherwise I can’t be a witch, too. It was a really good story, please watch.

Free Time

Today, I have no classes so I have a lot of free time. In this morning, I got asleep well and read the book. After that, I wanted go out but I don’t have much money. Therefore, I decided to go to school. I reached school and went to the library. I like the library because I can relax, what’s more, we can watch a lot of DVDs!! It is the best thing to relax for me at the library, I think. After I finished watching, I study a little for the exam. However, I became to be hungry so I went back home. It was good day.

The Sunny Day

Today was really sunny day so I felt too hot. I went to Tategamikyou valley in Yatsushiro with my friend. I used to go there with my family when I was a child. There are cold river and the river surround with the forest. It is very good place to visit in summer. We played with water, it was so cool! I could forget the heat of summer for a while. The river has beautiful water and the forest give us a pleasant shade. We were comfortable and could relax. I want to go there again.

Sea in Amakusa

Today, I went to Amakusa by car with my friends. The friends are club’s members, nine people. I was looking forward to going there before. First, we gathered in Uto station and we went to shopping at Uto city. We bought a beach sandal, it was 200 yen!! It is good shopping. We bought my friend’s birthday present. We hoped she please it. The next, we divided into three cars, let’s go to the sea!! When we arrived at the beach, we run to the sea. We were exciting because it is the sea for the first time in this year. We enjoyed in the beach and we took some pictures. We ate ice cream and went home. I had a very good time! It is a really good memory for me.

Book Review 13 : Pinocchio

I read this book “Pinocchio” Why I chose this book, I have known Pinocchio but I have never seen or read Pinocchio story. I want to know the detail of the story so I selected this book. This book is with a CD so I heard at the first. It was really good readings so I enjoyed hearing. The next, I read Pinocchio for myself.

The main characters in this story are Mr. Cherry, Gepetto, cricket, the fox and the cat. Pinocchio was made by Mr. Cherry, the carpenter. One day, even as he was ready to cut a piece of wood, “Don’t hurt me!” the wood said. He was very surprised. Just then, his friend Gpetto came to his house. Gapetto asked him to give the wood because he wants to make a best puppet in the world. When he was back home, he started to make the puppet. What is interesting, he gave the puppet to two eyes and he winked. Moreover, the nose grew longer and longer, the mouth laughed. Just as the puppet got legs, he started to run away! It was so funny story. Please read this book.

Book Review 12: Stories of Snowmen

I read this book “Stories of Snowmen” Why I chose this book, the book’s cover was so cute. The snowman is sparkling. Recently, it is too hot so I want to feel coolness. Which do you like better, winter or summer? I like winter more than summer because I am weak on living in summer. The story is in winter so I thought that I can get cool. In addition, I was born in Kumamoto and I live in Kumamoto now. Therefore I have never seen much snow and big snowmen. My dream is to run about in the snow.

The main characters in this book are Jack, snowman and Mr. Oats. Jack made snowman hard because he wanted to make the best snowman ever. The snowman is really nice!! He had two black pebbles’ eyes, four more for a smiley mouth, carrot nose, hat and scarf. He is as tall as Jack. Jack named him ‘Chilly’. It was so good name, I think.

One day, Mr. Oats who lives next door was putting up a sign. It was invitation of ‘Grand Christmas Party’. They prepared for the big bonfire next to snowman. The next morning, they found that the bonfire disappeared. Mr. Oats doubted Jack and he was angry at him. Jack feels terrible and he thinks “who would steal a bonfire?” He went out and he found that Chilly is taking down the bonfire. Chilly is alive!! They were surprised each other. What is interesting, all snowmen come alive at night. Why he took down the bonfire, the bonfire located in close to Chilly. Jack thought well and he moved the bonfire far from Chilly. They worked hard and built a new large bonfire!

Mr. Oats and Jack made up a quarrel and they enjoyed Christmas Party! It was so happy and interesting story. I liked it and I could feel cool a little:) I want you to read this book because you will be happy.

the Star Festival

Today, I went to Jiaien with my club members to help Star festival. Every year hold this festival at Jiaien and we go to help that. We prepared some games the last days, Quiz, message game, a picture-story show and Bingo. In addition, we brought a lot of prizes which children pleased.

First, we decorated bamboo grass. The children decorate some Origami and wishes. They were really beautiful decoration!! We enjoyed it very much.

Second, we watched a drama which concerned with the star festival. It was very interesting and children laughed so much. Then we did the games for children. They were so cheerful and tried as hard as they could. Children enjoyed the games so we were happy!! In addition, we became friends:)

Kikuchi Valley

Today, I went to Kikuchi Valley with my friends. I hear the spot is really beautiful so I wanted to go there for a long time. Finally my dream has come true!! Before we went to there, we went to shopping to buy something. By the way, today is my friend's birthday so we bought some presents. He likes doughnuts so we bought a lot of doughnuts!! xD We enjoyed driving to go there and arrived at the so-------beautiful spot!! It was hot today, but I felt cool in the valley. We took lunch together, it was so interesting and enjoyed very much. After that, we enjoyed in the river but the water was pretty cold!! I thought that I want to go here again next summer. After enjoyed the river, we went to my friend’s house which there are near here. We played games and read some comics, it was really fun. I had a great time today:)

Wheel Chair Lecture Class

Today, I take part in a wheelchairs lecture class. It is one of my club’s activities which hold every year. The class starts at nine o’clock so I have to get up early. The day, I got up at eight fifteen. I had to go out my house at eight thirty so I really hurried as much as I could. I was quick so I could be in time. The day’s program has various events.

First, we will practice how to use wheelchairs. Second, we will watch the video which explain how to use it. Third, we will have lunch. Fourth, we will go to the gymnasium and played some wheelchair games. First, I met members which I act together today. They are high school students. They were so young for me. However, they are kind and enjoyed together. We practiced to use some wheelchairs. I thought it was difficult that I used it on rugged way. However, we practiced and we could do that.

Second, we watch a video which explain how to use wheelchair. The video was so interesting and we found how to use them. After that, we had lunch. I was very hungry so I really happy! It was Karaage lunch, it’s delicious. However I was full so I couldn’t eat all of the lunch. I carried it back:)

Third, we moved to the gymnasium. We played some wheelchair games. For example, sitting volley ball, Origami with putting work gloves and went up the stairs with weight foot. They are experiences of handicapped person. We did various experiences, we could enjoy.

Finally, we gathered a classroom and held a closing ceremony. We were thankful to people which planed this lecture class. We could use wheelchair and understand handicapped person’s feeling. I thought it was a good experience for me.
